IN THE STUDIO WITH KHOI PHAM

How did you get involved with TEN TON STUDIOS in the first place?

I deny any involvement with Ten Ton Studios. Next question.

What brought you into comics? Was there a defining event, or was it just something that came naturally?

I'll separate this into two: What started me drawing superheroes, and what brought me to comics. With the drawing, I remember being at my parents' friends house when I was really little and seeing a drawing sitting on a table of Spiderman that the friends' son had done. I was amazed, and until that point, had never realized how much joy drawing could bring. The fact I didn't have to rely on television to get my cartoon or superhero fix, and that I could just draw them myself, hit me like a ton of bricks. I must've been only a few years old. So for years, I just drew television cartoon characters — Spiderman, Super Friends, Woody Woodpecker, etc. Then one day, my parents brought home a Spiderman comic book, the one where he fights the Juggernaut, drawn by JRJR. That started my love for comics. So like any comichead, I started "creating" my own characters and comics for fun. All derivative ultra-violent crap, but still a nice diversion. Fast forward about 25 years, and I've just moved into a new place. I wander down to the local comic store, and what do you know, they're putting out indy comics. And one of the guys is even a Kubert School grad. And that they're planning on attending Wizard World Philly 2003. The wheels start turning, and viola, here I am today.
