IN THE STUDIO WITH REILLY BROWN
How did you get involved with TEN TON STUDIOS in the first place?
Lelan Estes had written a bunch of stories for an anthology, and was looking for some poor saps to draw the thing, and lucky me, I was one of the poor saps he found. Now I don't usually go off and draw the stories of everyone who asks, but he told me about the project and mentioned some of the other artists who were involved, and I checked out their websites and portfolios and was really impressed and decided that if these guys were doing a project together, I should jump at the opportunity to be involved.
So while we were all working on our stories for the anthology, we were keeping in touch via a Yahoo message group, and through all the witty banter and thousands of yo' mama jokes we realized we all got along pretty well and wanted to stick together and keep the group going and help each other out as we all worked to get our art and writing careers going. So, I suggested a name, Phil (then called Alex) came up with a logo, we all voted on them a hundred thousand times, and here we are today with Ten Ton Studios!
Somehow throughout all that we seemed to forget to actually finish that anthology project that got us all together in the first place. Wonder what ever happened with that? Hmmm. . .

What brought you into comics? Was there a defining event, or was it just something that came naturally?
I always enjoyed drawing, and when I was little people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I'd always say I wanted to be an artist, however I never knew what kind of artist I wanted to be. I'd look at paintings and think that all the landscapes and sailboats looked boring, and I'd look at animation and think that all the similar frames were too redundant and would take forever, unless I was part of a studio without much control over what I worked on. But then, when I was 11 I went to a friend's birthday party and as party favors he was giving out comic books, and once I took a look at it and that was it. There were robots, aliens, monsters, heroes– all the cool stuff I loved, and loved to draw, telling an awesome story, which is what I liked my pictures to do. I looked at that comic and said "this is what I want to do when I grow up."
Hopefully if I ever grow up I'll still be drawing comics!
